Action from the Bundesliga on Friday night will see third placed Hertha Berlin host fourth places Schalke in what should be a ding dong battle at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. Hertha have put together an impressive season and have been pretty much flying under the radar this season, they have taken advantage of the struggles of Wolfsburg, Leverkusen and Schalke to move into the top three and they are going to be tough to knock down at this stage. Hertha are led by former Chelsea striker Salamon Kalou who has netted twelve goals this season and he is being supported by Ibisevic who has netted seven in seventeen starts this year an impressive tally for a player who failed to score a league goal last season at Stuttgart , all be it with limited opportunities. This has been a great year for Hertha supporters and the question is now can Hertha continue on and finish in the top four and get themselves a place in next years Champions League?
On the opposite side Friday will be Schalke, a perennial Champions League contender who missed out on the Champions League last season due to a poor season. Schalke have put themselves back in the reckoning for the Champions League this year though with a strong run of form of late. Just one defeat in their last five has seen Schalke rise to fourth and closing in on Hertha. Choupo Moting, Di Santo and Huntelaar are one of the best combination front three's in Germany, in theory. It hasnt quite worked out that way this season but Huntelaar has started hitting the net of late and the team is benefitting. Schalke have put together back to back wins now and played well in both games. This is a team that for me looks destined to finish higher and they could take a big step with a win here agaisnt their rivals.
This one looks tough to call but I have a sneaking suspicion that Schalke will get a win here. I'm going to take both teams to score though. Hertha are going through a bit of a rough patch but they face a generous Schalke defence here and I think they will get at least one. Schalke's offence should have enough to break down this Hertha defence too. This one looks one of the best of the Friday night fixtures.
