Houston Dynamo and Colorado Rapids meet Saturday in MLS soccer action at BBVA Compass Stadium.
Houston Dynamo is coming off a brutal 1-0 loss to the Montreal Impact, and it’s the type of loss that has you looking a little different at this club. Montreal is an awful soccer team, and the fact Dynamo was shutout and has scored just one goal in its last two matches combined doesn’t give you much confidence about this club right now. The good news is the Houston Dynamo is still one of the better offensive teams in the MLS and its 27 goals scored on the season are the second most in the Western Conference. The defense has a ways to go, but when Houston can control the pace and get out in the open field, there’s potential for positive results. Alberth Elis leads Houston with eight goals, Romell Quioto has six assists and Mauro Manotas has 33 shots.
Colorado Rapids find themselves dead last in the Western Conference and head into this match on a seven-game losing streak. Colorado Rapids have been on the wrong side of some tough breaks, but this is a club that’s not really good defensively and has been held to one or less goals in three of their last four MLS matches. While we’re still just 12 matches into the season, there’s just not a lot here that gets you excited about betting on the Colorado Rapids. With a goal differential of -8 and not a single road victory in five tries this season, you can make a strong case that the Colorado Rapids are the worst team in the MLS at the moment. Dominique Badji leads Colorado with five goals, Johan Blomberg has three assists and Edgar Castillo has 15 shots.
Colorado Rapids are 3-1-1 in the last five meetings against Houston Dynamo, which includes a 1-0 win back in September. Houston’s only win over Colorado during that span was a friendly match in February of 2017. Four of the five meetings between these clubs have produced at least two goals.
Houston Dynamo is due for a bounce back performance after losing to Montreal, and they should be eager to take out some frustration. The Colorado Rapids are the perfect team to do that against, as there’s not much consistency at either end. But I’m not laying this price based on the way Houston has played. Instead, I’ll take the over. Houston is too good offensively to be held down three straight matches and usually shows up at home. Colorado has allowed three or more goals in two of its five road games.
Give me the over.
