ACF Fiorentina at Inter Milano

Inter welcome Fiorentina to the San Siro on Wednesday with both sides looking to book their place in the last four of the Coppa Italia. Antoni Conte’s side come into this game on the back of three consecutive 1-1 draws, while Fiorentina are unbeaten in their previous five games in all competitions. But Inter are the bookies’ favorite to win this matchup.
Following two big wins against Genoa and Napoli, Inter saw the first of their 1-1 draws come against Atalanta. Lecce then held the Nerazzurri, before Cagliari came from behind to snatch a share of the points on Sunday. Lautaro Martinez scored for Inter last time out, but the Argentine was also shown a red card late on.
Despite their substandard recent run, Inter remain in the hunt for the Serie A title after losing just one of their 21 league games this term. Conte’s men have one of the best defensive records in the division, and they haven’t had any trouble scoring goals, either.
A Romelu Lukaku brace helped Inter to book their place in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals as the Nerazzurri thrashed Cagliari 4-1. Borja Valero and Andrea Ranocchia also got on the scoresheet in the previous round.
Fiorentina sealed their place in the last eight by beating Atalanta 2-1. Patrick Cutrone and Pol Lirola scored either side of a Josip Ilicic goal to claim an unexpected victory. The Florence outfit saw just 31% of the possession in the previous round, while recording just five shots to Atalanta’s 16. However, Giuseppe Iachini’s side scarped through.
Fiorentina have picked up some promising results of late. After drawing with Bologna, Iachini’s men beat SPAL before claiming an impressive away victory at Napoli. A goalless draw with Genoa last time out halted Fiorentina’s encouraging run, but they will be confident of causing an upset against Inter.
Having said that, Inter are miles ahead of Fiorentina in the Serie A standings. Conte’s side have picked up a whopping 23 points more than La Viola in the top-flight in 2019/20, so I’m backing Inter to exert their superiority and beat Fiorentina on Wednesday.
Inter’s forwards have been scoring goals at a frightening rate this season, while Fiorentina have been shaky at the back at times. The Florence side have also struggled to find the back of the net this term, so I think Inter will cruise to a comfortable victory.
