Inter is welcoming Lecce in the final match of round 1 of Italian Serie A.
Inter has started last season pretty good, but everything went downhill after Christmas break. Inter wasn't playing good on either end of the field and couldn't score a goal even if the other team removed all of their players. Inter should be a lot better this season because they signed a much better coach, Antonio Conte, and few new players from which most notable is Romelo Lukaku, a striker Inter desperately needs. Diego Godin was signed for free from Atletico Madrid and he should bring some consistency to Inter's defense. In the preseason period, Inter was solid and has won 4 of the 6 games they played and the progress compared to last year is already visible. Inter had more possession in those games, more chances and was solid on the defensive end. Inter ended up 4th in Serie A last season with 69 points, 57 scored goals and 33 conceded goals and got qualified for Champions League. Diego Godin is only injured player in Inter and is expected to return on September 1st. Inter has a pretty good team this year, and more importantly, they have a much better coach than last year and for that reason, I think that Inter will end up in top 3 this season in Serie A.
Lecce is the newcomer in Serie A after ending up 2nd in Serie B last season. The only goal Lecce has for this season is to try to stay in Serie A which will be extremely hard for them to accomplish as the newcomers to Serie A. Lecce will be fighting with Brescia, SPAL, Genoa, and Cagliari to stay out of relegation zone and all of those teams, Lecce has the least quality and experience. As I have said, it will be extremely hard for Lecce to stay in Serie A. Lecce's best player last season was Andrea La Mantia with 17 goals and has stayed with the club this season as well. Fabio Liverani was signed as Lecce's head coach back in 2017., and since then Lecce has been constantly improving and getting better in every aspect of the game. In the preseason period, Lecce has played 3 games and has won all 3 with 14 scored goals and only 1 conceded goal. Meccariello and Fiamozzi are only 2 injured players and will not be in the lineup. Lecce has some good young players who are the future of this club, but they still need time to mature and this season will great for them to experience soccer on the highest level. Lecce had a good, attacking soccer-style last season in Serie B, but against the teams from Serie A, Lecce will not have as much space or freedom nor they have the quality to implement their game style.
Inter hasn't lost any of their last 7 home games against Lecce, and the quality is obviously on Inter's side and for that reason, I'm not giving a lot of chances to Lecce. I will side with Inter and goals.
