The Line: Chelsea +134 / Internazionale +187 / Draw +230 -- Over/Under: 2.5
Chelsea and Internazionale meet Saturday in the soccer International Champions Cup at the Allianz Riviera.
Chelsea is coming off a 1-0 victory over Perth Glory, which was a true road match that they completely dominated. Chelsea controlled the ball for 71 percent of the match, got seven shots on goal compared to just one for the home team, and Pedro finding the back of the net early was the difference. It was an overall solid performance for Chelsea and one they can build on considering they’re still ironing out the wrinkles with a new coach, but it’s not worthy getting carried away due to the subpar competition. These next couple of matches will be key for Chelsea to really buckle down and get in regular season form. Still, it’s nice to see Chelsea go into a tough environment and find a way to win, even if the motivation wasn’t 100 percent there in preseason.
Internazionale is coming off a 1-1 draw against Sheffield United, a match where there was little to no separation featured a goal from Mauro Icardi to force the positive result. You’ll take a defensive battle and a solid showing overall, but Internazionale has now failed to win five of its last eight matches and would love nothing more than to end that drought against a quality side. Internazionale has been held to one or less goals in three of its last six matches and has struggled at times when stepping up in competition. While its still preseason and young players are sure to get the bulk of the playing time, you’d like to see some fire and aggressiveness from Internazionale in this tournament with meaningful matches around the corner.
These clubs met in last years International Champions Cup, a match Internazionale won 2-1. The other match was in the 2013 International Champions Cup, a match Chelsea won 2-0.
Chelsea has been the more consistent team as of late and has been aggressive offensively despite the low scoring total recently. It’s only a matter of time before some of these goals find the back of the net for Chelsea. Internazionale has to prove to me it’s going to snap out of this recent funk and win a match against a quality opponent.
I’m going to back Chelsea to win this match.
