A pair of FIFA World Cup regulars that are on the outside looking in face off in a friendly from the Allianz Stadium in Turin as Italy takes on the Netherlands.

Italy doesn’t have long to regroup after taking on France on Friday, losing the battle of the Blues by a final score of 3-1. The Italians found themselves down 2-0 before Leonardo Bonucci potted the Azzurri’s lone goal in the match in the 36th minute. The Italians were dominated in possession, holding the ball for just 43% of the match, despite outshooting France 15-12, with each team putting six shots on target. Salvatore Sirigu started between the sticks, but don’t be surprised if Gianluigi Donnarumma saw some game action in this one.

The Netherlands played a match as a tune-up opponent themselves, holding Slovakia to a 1-1 draw on Thursday. Slovakia took a quick 1-0 lead in the 8th minute before the Oranje equalized thanks to a Quincy Promes goal in the 59th minute. The Dutch may not have won the possession battle, winning only 47% possession, but heavily outshot the Slovaks, 18-8, with 7 Dutch shots hitting the target to Slovakia’s 3.

The last four head-to-head clashes between Italy and the Netherlands have gone the way of Italy, with the Azzurri notching two wins and two draws, with the most recent meeting ending in a 2-1 Italy win last March.

The draw is tempting considering it’s a very good price and the Dutch have the talent to keep this one close. However, with neither team playing in the World Cup in a couple of weeks, this matchup will strictly be for pride and since I think the Italians will want to send their faithful home happy, I think we see a bit more edge from the Azzurri who have a big edge in goal, and therefore a home win would be my pick for the final result.

Italy -111
