Japan vs. Belgium - 7/2/18 World Cup Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

The round of 16 will see Belgium take on Japan. Neither side have a strong history and both would like to create some new accomplishments for their respective nations. There are tons of very talented players in this match and as a result, we should be able to witness a great game of football.

Japan were very lucky to make it to the round of 16 as they edged past Senegal thanks to a fair play rule. With the team already receiving good fortune, the players will want to make the most of it by have a deep run in the competition. This side has shown a fighting spirit when they needed to and this was best displayed as they came from behind twice against Senegal to get a draw. This game will be a much harder test for Japan as Belgium are much stronger than any side that Japan has faced in this tournament and the Japanese will need to defend well if they want to remain in the contest.

On the other side of the coin, Belgium will know that this is a game that they are expected to win. The Red Devils have won all of their games and if they win this game, they will have the unfortunate task of facing Brazil in the quarterfinals. Having said that, this Belgium side will not fear Brazil since the quality on both teams are very even. In regards to this game, Belgium will look to win it early to avoid any late scares. Lukaku has looked very dominant and he has been well supported by the rest of his team. Vincent Kompany played against England which means the Manchester City star might be fit. This will be a huge boost and further strengthen a strong side.

All in all, I think that Belgium will win this game with some ease. The Red Devils are much stronger than Japan and this should not be much of a contest. We are not getting the best price to wager on Belgium to win but I think it is good enough if we want to place a banker bet. The best bet seems like the over 2.5 goals which should win since I see Belgium easily netting three goals.
