Juventus is hosting their city rivals Torino in round 35 of Italian Serie A.
Juventus is the new/old Serie A champion, for the seventh time in a row. Juventus is an absolute ruler of Italian soccer with 34 Serie A titles and it doesn’t look they are stopping anytime soon. In their last game against Inter, Juventus was the worse team with 46% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal and 87% of correct passes and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. Cristiano Ronaldo leads Juventus with 20 goals and 7 assists and is expected to lead the team once more in this game. Some important players like Dybala, Mandzukic and Khedira are injured while Costa is listed as questionable. There are a lot of rumors if coach Allegri will remain on the bench next season and some recent speculations are that Juventus will offer him another 1-year contract and give him another chance to win Champions League. Dybala, Matuidi and Costa will most likely leave Juventus while Pjanic who is one of their best players is wanted by every major team in Europe, with Real Madrid being the first in line for the signing of this great midfielder. This game means absolutely nothing to Juventus except the satisfaction of beating their city rival and for that reason, I expect that coach Allegri will put out the best players that he has at his disposal at the moment.
Torino is on a 6th place at the moment with 56 points and is only 3 points away from Champions League, and because Milan and Roma who are their main competitors are playing really bad soccer at the moment, Torino’s chances are more than good. In their last game against Milan, Torino displayed well-balanced soccer with 42% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal and low 71% of correct passes but despite that, Torino managed to win 2-0. Belotti is Torino’s top goal scorer with 13 goals. Djidji, Moretti, and Parigini are all injured and will not be playing in this game. Torino hasn’t lost any of their last 6 games and has scored at least 1 goal in 9 of their last 10 games. On the defensive end, Torino is one of the best teams in Serie A and has conceded only 29 goals and their defense is the main reason why Torino is still in play for Champions League spot. Coach Mazzarri is doing an excellent job with this team and he will remain on the bench for next season. With some additions to the squad to improve team quality, Torino could be in top 5 next season.
Torino hasn’t won any of the last 4 games against Juventus, and they haven’t lost any of their last 6 away matches. Even with all the injuries and no need for a win, Juventus is really dangerous and should not be underestimated and while Torino needs a win here and is playing in slightly better form, I will pick something on goals because I don’t expect a lot of defense here.
