We have some MLS action from the StubHub Centre on Saturday as the LA Galaxy takes on Columbus Crew.
The LA Galaxy come into this match unbeaten in their last four league outings, with three ending in draws, including back-to-back draws following a 2-2 tie last time out against DC United. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Chris Pontius gave the Galaxy a 2-0 lead just 25 minutes into the match before DC equalized just one minute later. The Galaxy had all three points in sight before Darren Mattocks tied the game in the 85th minute leading to the score draw. LA were out possessed 60%-40%, with both sides logging 13 shots with LA edging DC 4-3 in terms of shots on target. Ibrahimovic leads the Galaxy with 10 goals this season while Ema Boating is the Galaxy’s top assist man with 5 assists this season.
The Columbus Crew will look to build some steam after snapping a five game winless drought with a 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake last time out. The Crew jumped out to a 2-0 lead just 23 minutes into the match with a 6th minute penalty from Gyafi Zardez and a 23rd minute goal from Eduardo Sosa. RSL pulled a goal back in the 74th, but it was too little too late as the Crew left with all three points. Columbus were out possessed 59%-41% but outshot RSL 13-10 with each side logging 4 shots on goal. Zardes leads Columbus with 11 goals this season while Federico Higuain leads Columbus with 5 assists this season.
Head-to-head, the home team is unbeaten in the last six meetings between the two sides with four wins and two draws with the home team also getting points in eight of the last nine meetings between the two with six wins and two draws.
We are getting slightly better value with the Galaxy here, however Los Angeles has been shaky at home, and that includes dropping points against the worst team in the league in DC United. Columbus hasn’t been stellar on the road, but they’ve picked up points in five of their eight road games. All in all, I don’t see either side doing enough to take all three points which is why I’m going to side with a draw as my final prediction.
