The LA Galaxy and Los Angeles Football Club meet Friday in MLS action at the Dignity Health Sports Park.
The LA Galaxy have lost two of their last three matches, including their most recent contest last week to the San Jose Earthquakes. The Galaxy have been a bit up and down throughout the year, but seven of their 11 wins have come at home where they bump their offense just a little, averaging 1.5 goals. Zlatan Ibrahimović leads the Galaxy with 13 goals, Chris Pontius has three assists and Uriel Antuna has 22 shots. Defensively, David Bingham has come away with 83 saves on 110 shot attempts. The LA Galaxy are in need of a statement victory and could use the three points to better position themselves in a Western Conference that’s quite competitive once you get past the top seed.
The Los Angeles Football Club have positioned themselves as the best team in the MLS with 46 points, and they’ve lost just one game since April 21. LAFC has been an offensive machine with 53 goals scored and is allowing just 0.9 goals on the road this season. Carlos Vela leads LAFC with 19 goals, Eduard Atuesta has seven assists and Diego Rossi has 66 shots. Defensively, Tyler Miller has come away with 42 saves on 56 shot attempts. However, the two losses this season for the Los Angeles Football Club have come on the road and it’s also where three of their four draws have taken place as well. As good as LAFC has been this season, teams have had some success when hosting them in a hostile environment.
The last two meetings between these clubs produced a draw, including the last match in August. The one victory was March of 2018, which was a 4-3 win for LA Galaxy. The three meetings overall have produced an average of 4.3 goals.
This is a bigger game for the LA Galaxy, and they should feel good about themselves at home where they’ve played their best. With that said, LAFC has been so consistent and so dominant to where they’re just tough to bet against as long as the line is reasonable. The Los Angeles Football Club have clearly separated themselves from the rest of the pack and get the job done with a balanced attack. The Galaxy are just too hit or miss for me and don’t have the horses offensively to respond if they get down early.
I like the road team.
