Lazio is hosting Atalanta in the final game of Coppa Italia.
Lazio has been a hot and cold entire season and is not playing overly attractive soccer and has conceded at least 1 goal in their last 6 matches. In their last Serie A game against Cagliari, Lazio was solid with 52% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, 84% of correct passes and has won this game 1-2 which means a lot for Lazio’s Champions League fight. Lazio has gotten to the Coppa Italia finals by beating Milan in semifinals and Inter in a penalty shootout before that. Lazio has a decent team with players like Immobile, Milinkovic-Savic, Badelj, and Luis Alberto but coach Inzaghi is not doing a good enough job in pulling his players together and getting them to play good soccer and for that reason, his future in Lazio is not yet certain. In Serie A, Ciro Immobile is Lazio’s top goal scorer with 14 goals while he added 3 goals in Coppa Italia. Lukaku and Berisha are only 2 injured players for Lazio who will not play in this game. Lazio has been struggling for most of the season and is pretty far from the top in Serie A and will most likely not get qualified for Champions League so this competition is the only trophy Lazio could win and both players and fans are full of confidence in front of this match.
Atalanta is playing amazing soccer at the moment and it’s been unbeaten for last 13 matches and has scored 11 goals in last 5 matches. In their last Serie A game against Genoa, Atalanta was a better team with 61% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal and 86% of correct passes and has won the game 2-1, and made 1 more step towards Champions League. Zapata is Atalanta’s top goal scorer both in Serie A and Coppa Italia and is expected to be in the lineup in this game. Atalanta has gotten to the finals by beating Fiorentina in semifinals, destroying Juventus before that and beating Cagliari before Juventus. Atalanta is playing really good, offensive soccer with lots of created chances and shots on goal and is one of the best offensive teams in Italy despite the shaky start of the season. Rafael Toloi is only injured player in Atalanta’s squad and will not play in this game. Duvan Zapata is Atalanta’s best player and it will be really hard to keep him in Atalanta because there is a lot of interest from some bigger European teams like Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, Juventus, and Milan. Gomez, Ilicic, Pasalic, Freuler and de Roon have already announced that they want to stay in Atalanta, and with a few more additions to the team, coach Gasperini will have a team that can compete for top 4 spots once again next season.
This is the final game of Coppa Italia and trends don’t really matter here. Despite the game being played on Lazio’s stadium, I’m giving the edge to Atalanta because they are a better team, playing in better for and with more consistency on both ends of the field.
