The International Champions Cup is one of the biggest pre-season friendly tournaments and it is a great chance for the managers to perfect their teams before the start of the regular season. This week we will Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool team take on his former club, Borussia Dortmund. Both teams will be desperate to test their squad and with many top players not yet back from the World Cup, we should expect a great game of football involving some talented youngsters.
Borussia Dortmund beat Manchester City in their last preseason thanks to a penalty from Mario Gotze. Gotze, Toprak, Schmelzer, and Rode were the only big names that played this game with the rest of the side being filled with young, squad players. It is important to note that Riyad Mahrez and Claudio Bravo were the only big names playing for Manchester City so Dortmund wasn’t tested greatly. This should be a slightly harder test since Liverpool have more top quality players back from the summer break.
Liverpool have many top quality players back from the summer break and that should mean that they will be dominant in this game. The likes of Naby Keita, Fabinho, James Milner, Adam Lallana and Daniel Sturridge are all back for preseason and this means that the Reds have been dominating all the other top teams. Looking at the two sides, Liverpool has the better players since more of them are back in training.
All in all, I am expecting Liverpool to win this game comfortably. The Reds are only missing a few players while most of the Borussia Dortmund first team is missing. This should be an easy Liverpool win. As far as betting is concerned, we are getting a decent price to wager on Liverpool winning so that is the bet I am going to suggest. In addition to that, I am also going to suggest wagering on the over 2.5 goals bet. Preseason games tend to be high scoring so I am expecting at least 3 goals.
