Action from the Bundesliga on Friday night will see Mainz 05 host a struggling Borussia Dortmund. After a tremendous start to the season Dortmund have struggled to maintain their hot start failing to win in their last four competitive games and losing 5-1 to Bayern Munich in a game between the top two. Mats Hummels the club captain was not happy with the effort in the Munich game and publicly criticised the teams performance. We will be looking for a reaction from the team on Friday with Reus , Aubeymeyang and Mkhitaryan looking to get the team back on track, although this is a tricky fixture against a Mainz team that have had some good performances already this season.
Mainz will look to Muto and Malli to unlock a Borussia Dortmund defence that has been shaky in recent weeks. Mainz have won four and lost four this season, no draws and the team has played well in recent weeks winning two at home but they coming undone against Bayern Munich in their last home tie. Malli and Muto have scored all six goals that Mainz have scored at home and will look to continue that strong scoring record when they take on a Dortmund team that have conceded ten in five games away from home this season and have only one clean sheet this season away from the Signul Iduna Arena.
Tough one to call here for me, Borussia Dortmund are defintiely not worthy of 1/2 favourites tag and I am going to take Mainz +1 because of it. I think Borussia Dortmund's defence is too poor to take them on the road in a game like this one against a Mainz team that have put in some really good performances already this season.
