Friday night action from the Bundesliga will see Mainz host Hoffenheim. Hoffenheim are going through a very tough start to the season and having lost star man Firminho to Liverpool they do not seem to have found a replacement. Vargas has arrived from Napoli but is yet to really settle in and the strikers have only managed one goal between the three of them with Volland netting it. It looks as if this is going to be a long season of struggle for Hoffenheim if they continue struggle to finish games as they have been. To be fair to Hoffenheim though they have had a tough schedule and only lost to Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich with late goals. The team is taking some time to gel but given time I think they have a squad here that should improve as the season progresses which should see them rise up the table.
Mainz have had a relatively decent start to the Bundesliga season with two wins and two losses. A summer of change has seen Okazaki and Geis leave for big money and Mainz really did lose two of their best players. Young Japanese striker Muto has come in and looks comfortable at the club scoring two goals in four games and filling the void left by Okazaki leaving. Fabian Frei has come in from Basel as well and alongside Baumgartliner they should provide Mainz with a solid midfield although Frei is currently carrying an injury. I think Mainz at home do look a really solid bet here.
I'm going to take Mainz as slight favourites here, this will be a tough game but I think we can get our weekend off to a solid start with a home win.
