Today is deadline day in Europe for football transfers and it is always a hectic mad rush to get last minute deals done in time.
Manchester United has been struggling during most of the transfer window since 1st July to try and get some new players in. One of the problems is the type of player they are trying to sign, as it is always very hard to sign high profile players because of the cost and the likely effect on the incumbent club.
As the news is a live feed, I will try to give readers a realistic idea of the likely new signings which Manchester United fans can realistically expect.
David Moyes, the Manchester United manager, has spent most of the transfer window chasing players from his former club, Everton. Moyes has targeted both Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini, but it is becoming more likely that it will be Fellaini who will make the move as breaking news has suggested that a deal worth around £24m has been agreed with the two clubs.
By way of confirming this, my sources have told me that Everton has in turn had an offer for James McCarthy of Wigan accepted and he is a direct replacement for Fellaini.
The other major deal of the day will be Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao and the Catalan club left the player on the bench for their game last night against Real Madrid; a sure sign that something is in the offing. We have heard in the last hour that Manchester United has agreed to pay the full buyout clause fee of £30m up front in one cash lump sum; a stipulation made by the Athletic president.
It will be a close run thing, as the player will have to fly from Bilbao to Manchester for a medical, with a flying time of around 2.5 hours involved, however, I expect this deal will be done before the deadline of 11pm GMT.
Moyes would be quite happy with two midfield players of this quality; Fellaini is a big 6 feet 4 inch defensive midfield enforcer who can score and cause problems in the box with his height. Hererra is a box to box creative midfielder who can score as well.
I expect both deals to be United`s only transfer dealings this summer.
