Manchester United +130 / Chelsea +210 / Draw +240
Manchester United will begin their 2019 English Premier League season at home as they play against Chelsea at Old Trafford.
Manchester United have had a very good preseason as they beat teams like AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Tottenham. Players like Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, and Marcus Rashford all showed good form as they scored goals during the preseason games. 2018/2019 was a poor season for Manchester United as they failed to qualify for the Champions League but the team has spent big with the hope of qualifying for the top 4 this season. Harry Maguire was the big signing for Manchester United as the English defender was bought from Leicester City. Following the preseason, there will be optimism around the club as Manchester City hope for a big season.
On the other side of the coin, Chelsea had a poor off-season. Chelsea had a transfer ban meaning that the team didn’t make any big signings. Furthermore, Eden Hazard left the club meaning that Chelsea will be without their superstar winger. Eden Hazard was the main reason for Chelsea’s success last season and the attack looks very weak without the Belgian superstar, Chelsea defeated teams like FC Barcelona in the preseason but the team looks to be struggling considering they failed to make any new signings.
Chelsea and Manchester United played each other 3 times last season. Two of those fixtures were in the Premier League with both games ending with the scores tied. Chelsea and Manchester United also met in the FA Cup where Manchester United won 2-0. During the FA Cup win, Paul Pogba was outstanding as he scored a goal and also provided an assist for Ander Herrera.
Both Chelsea and Manchester United will be desperate to start their season with a win. Neither side look destined to win the Premier League but I see Manchester United winning this match. Manchester United have looked in decent touch and their new additions look very impressive. Chelsea have lost key players and they don’t look strong enough to compete against the big teams. At home, I see Manchester United getting all 3 points.
