In the quarterfinals of the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup, Mexico will play against Costa Rica.

Mexico have been very solid throughout the Gold Cup and the team finished top of their group. Mexico maintains a perfect record in this tournament as they have won all 3 of their games.

In their previous outing, Mexico defeated Martinique 3-2. Mexico rested multiple players for this game but the team had enough quality to secure the 3 points. Raul Jimenez continued his supreme form as he scored his 3rd goal of the tournament. Overall, it was a dominant display by Mexico as they controlled 67% of the possession and had 10 shots on target.

Mexico are amongst the top attacking teams in the competition as they have scored 13 goals. The defense has also been impressive from Mexico as they have only conceded 3 goals in the entire tournament. Mexico are filled with talent across the park and they should have enough quality to feel optimistic about their ability to win.

On the other side of the coin, Costa Rica finished second in their group with 6 points. In their previous match, Costa Rica were beaten 2-1 by Haiti.

It was a poor defensive effort by Costa Rica as they allowed Haiti 6 shots on target. Costa Rica maintained 71% of the ball but the possession was not used well as they had fewer shots on target than Haiti. The defense has been a slight problem for Costa Rica in this tournament as they have only kept 1 clean sheet.

Costa Rica have a very experienced squad with the likes of Bryan Ruiz playing in 2 World Cups. This will be a tough match for Costa Rica and it will be important that their experienced players can perform.

This match is set to be played at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

Costa Rica have had a decent loss but this team is lacking quality in vital areas and their key players are aging. Mexico, on the other hand, are playing very well and maintain a perfect record in this tournament. Mexico have the stronger team and I see them being good enough to defeat Costa Rica and secure a spot in the semifinals.
