Mexico -3300 / Draw +1400 / Cuba +3300
Mexico will begin their CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign against Cuba. Mexico are one of the favorites to win this tournament and will be desperate to start their campaign win a victory.
Mexico played two warm-up matches which they both one. The first victory was against Venezuela and the second win was against Ecuador. Both were formidable opponents so Mexico will be very pleased with their form as they start their tournament. Mexico will be led by Andrés Guardado who has over 150 international caps. The midfielder had a solid season at Real Bettis and he will be vital in providing creativing for the Mexican team down the left flank. Raul Jimenez will be the key striker for Mexico. Jimenez will be very confident as he had a strong season with Wolves in the Premier League where he scored 13 goals. Mexico have a tremendous record at the CONCACAF Gold Cup as they have won this tournament 10 times in the past. The most recent title victory for Mexico was in 2015. Mexico finished 3rd in the last CONCACAF Gold Cup. This Mexican side is well balanced throughout the positions and considering their record at this tournament, they will be very tough to stop.
Cuba, on the other hand, will hope to cause an opening round upset. It has been a solid 12 months for the Cuban national team as they have beaten teams such as the Dominican Republic, Barbados, and Bermuda. This team has exciting players like Yordan Santa Cruz and Luis Paradela. Paradela will be key for Cuba’s attack since the striker has scored 5 international goals in only 6 games. Beating Mexico will be a very tough task for Cuba since their opponents are significantly more experienced and accomplished.
Cuba and Mexico have played each other 9 times in the past. Mexico has dominated the head-to-head games as they have a 9-0 record against Cuba. The most recent match between these two nations was in 2015 at the CONCACAF Gold Cup where Mexico won 6-0.
Cuba have a promising team and will hope to make an impact in this tournament. That being said, I see them losing this match. Mexico are filled with superstars who ply their trade at some of the biggest clubs in the world. This Mexican side are favorites to win the entire tournament and I see them starting their campaign with an easy win over Cuba.
