Both teams need a win when Mexico take on Equador on Friday night as both are looking to progress to the knockout stages. If Mexico get the win they will be in a great position to qualify for the quarter finals with five points from three matches but Equador would still need help from elsewhere even if they do win as they have lost their opening two games. Mexico were terrific in the game against Chile last time out playing superb attacking football and holding the host nation to a 3-3 draw with both Jiminez and Vuoso netting for the Mexicans. Vuoso in particular was impressive and his finishing will be needed again tonight if Mexico are to beat a tough ecuador side.
Equador were terrible in the first half of their 3-2 loss to Bolivia, the team went to sleep conceded three goals in and giving themselves too much of a mountain to overcome in the second half. Enner Valencia led the line netted one and created the other in the second half but overall Ecuador have been disappointing. I am certain they will want to put that right tonight when they face what is essentially a second string Mexico team who will be without Rafa Marquez after he was ruled out through injury.
This one looks like it should be a shootout, both teams are frail defensively while possessing plenty of attacking talent going forward. I'm taking the overs here and hoping for another five or six goal thriller from Group A.
