The Line: -- Over/Under:
Haiti will play against Mexico in the semifinals of the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Haiti had a big win in the previous round as the team defeated Canada 3-2. It was a determined effort by Haiti as they were trailing 2-0 at half-time. Haiti scored 3 second-half goals to secure the win.
Haiti were very efficient with the ball as they only had 35% of the possession but took more shots than Canada. Haiti took 16 shots with 5 shots being on target.
In this tournament, Haiti have already defeated two big teams in Canada and Costa Rica. That being said, this will be Haiti’s toughest test and the players will have to be at their best to compete with Mexico.
Mexico have been dominant throughout this tournament although they suffered a scare in the quarterfinals. Mexico only managed a 1-1 draw against Costa Rica but qualified via a penalty shoot-out. Raul Jimenez continued his supreme form as the Wolves striker scored his 4th goal of the tournament. Mexico led the match at half-time but conceded the advantage by gifting a penalty to Costa Rica.
It was a good enough performance by Mexico as they maintained 60% of the possession and had 22 shots.
Mexico have been outstanding going forward in this tournament as they have already scored 14 goals. The defense has been steady as Mexico have conceded 4 goals during the tournament.
This semifinal clash between Haiti and Mexico is set to take place at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
Haiti have surprised multiple teams in this tournament and it is a great credit to the team for making the final 4. That being said, I see Haiti losing this match. Mexico are one of the strongest teams in the tournament and the team has played well in most of their games. Mexico suffered a small scare in the semifinals but the team avoided defeat and remain unbeaten. Mexico have a stronger team and more experience so I see them being good enough to qualify for the final.
