LOSC Lille at Olympique Lyonnais

Lyon host Lille at Groupama Stadium for the first Coupe de la Ligue semi-final on Tuesday. Both sides come into this game on the back of Coupe de France wins, so both managers will be looking to extend their respective winning runs in cup competition.
Lyon secured a thrilling 4-3 victory over fellow Ligue 1 side Nantes in their previous game. Despite leading the game 4-1, Lyon eventually held on after two late goals from Nantes. 16-year-old Rayan Cherki bagged a brace for Lyon, while Martin Terrier and Moussa Dembele also got on the scoresheet.
In Lille’s last game, Christophe Galtier’s side beat fourth-tier outfit Gonfreville 2-0 to advance into the Coupe de France Round of 16. Loic Remy and Victor Osimhen grabbed the goals for Lille as the top-flight team asserted their superiority over their lower-league opponents.
However, Lille’s recent league form hasn’t been great. Lille were thrashed 5-1 by Monaco prior to the winter break before returning to action last weekend with defeat to struggling Dijon. Following a promising start to the campaign, Lille have slipped to fifth in the Ligue 1 standings.
On the other hand, Lyon have improved in recent weeks. Rudi Garcia’s men have lost just one of their previous nine games in all competitions and have won their last four on the bounce. This run has seen them climb to seventh in Ligue 1 – two points behind Lille.
Lyon have managed to scored two goals or more in each of their past four games and have averaged four goals per game during that time. By contrast, Lille have struggled for goals of late.
Lille have failed to score more than two goals in any of their previous seven league games, while their defense has also been shaky. Lyon’s recent defensive record has also been questionable, but they have a lot more to offer going forward.
Due to their home advantage, Lyon come into this game as favorites. But they have also produced the better performances recently, so I’d have to agree with the bookies here.
Considering you can almost double your money by backing the in-form home side in this matchup, the Lyon win seems like a no brainer.
