Parma is welcoming Milan in round 33 of Italian Serie A.
After years of competing in lower divisions of Italian soccer where Parma was relegated because of financial troubles they were in, they finally reached Serie A this season. Parma had a dream start of the season, they were winning, playing great soccer and were scoring a lot of goals and at some point, were even close to Champions League spot, but when the second part of the season started Parma have lost all the chemistry they had and losses have started pilling up. Parma has won only 1 of last 12 games and in on a 5-game streak without a win. In their last game against Sassuolo, Parma had only 28% of ball possession, 1 shot on goal, 62% of correct passes but because of Parma’s good defense, that game ended in a 0-0 draw. Gervinho is Parma’s top goal scorer and the best player with 10 goals while Inglese added 8 goals. Grassi, Biabiany, Inglese, and Sieratta are injured and will not be playing in this match. Parma is holding 14th place in the standings with 35 points and is safe outside relegation zone which was Parma’s main goal before the season started. With 55 conceded goals, Parma is one of the worst defensive teams in Serie A, and that is something coach D’Aversa will need to work on for next season if he remains the head coach of this team.
Milan is playing really good soccer with a lot of chances and shots on goal and because of that, Milan is finally close to qualifying into Champions League next season. Milan is holding the 4th spot in Serie A standings with 55 points but Roma, Atalanta, and Lazio are breathing on their necks and it will be a tight race until the last day of the season. In their last game against Lazio, Milan was a better team with 54% ball possession, 5 shots on goal, 11 corner kicks, 87% of correct passes and were able to win this game 1-0. This victory was a huge boost for Milan’s players because not only they have won a game after 4 matches without a win, they did it against Lazio who is one of their main competitors for Champions League spot. Piatek has scored 8 goals in 12 matches for Milan while Suso added 8 assists. Bonaventura and Paqueta are both injured and will not be playing. Coach Gattuso has been doing a great job with this team since the season started and its understandable that Milan got in this 4 game slump after a huge run without a loss they had before that, but now Milan seems to be getting back on track and I expect them to finish the season strong and get qualified for Champions League.
Milan is a better team here and they haven’t lost any of their last 3 matches against Parma while Parma hasn’t won any of their last 5 games. Because Milan is in better form and needs this win more than Parma, I’m giving the edge to Milan in this game.
