The Portland Timbers and FC Dallas square off Wednesday night at the Providence Park.
The Portland Timbers could use a nice victory after a rough 1-2-2 start to the season. The Timbers have split their last four matches and their struggles come on the defensive end. The Timbers have allowed at least one goal in every match this season and are allowing 4.6 shots on goal per contest. The Timbers could use three points here to kind of get back on track. Fanendo Adi leads Portland with four goals, Diego Valeri has two assists and Dairon Asprilla has 11 shots. Defensively, Adam Kwarasey has come away with 14 saves on 23 shots faced. The Portland Timbers have earned points in six of their last eight regular season home games.
FC Dallas are off to a solid 3-1-2 start to the season and are getting the job done with their offense. FC Dallas has scored six goals in its last three matches and has four players with double-digit shot attempts. With its aggressive attack, the Houston Dynamo are currently the only team in the MLS that has more goals scored than FC Dallas. Maximiliano Urruti leads Dallas with three goals, Mauro Diaz has four assists and Fabian Castillo has 15 shots. Defensively, Chris Seitz has come away with eight saves on 11 shots faced. FC Dallas have earned points in four of their last eight regular season road games.
The Timbers have beaten FC Dallas in three of the last five meetings and is 3-1-1 during that span overall. FC Dallas’ only victory over Portland during that span was in July of last year. The last four meetings between these two teams has produced at least four goals.
Considering FC Dallas is the second-highest scoring team in the league right now and these matchups usually have a lot of fireworks, I expect the the over to hit in this matchup. A match between these two teams hasn’t produced less than four goals since October of 2014.
