Portland Timbers vs Philadelphia Union - 8/4/18 MLS Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Portland Timbers will continue their 2018 MLS season this weekend as they prepare to play their next game at home. The Timbers will host the Philadelphia Union at Providence Park in one of the last games of the day. Both teams will be desperate for 3 points at this stage of the season so I am expecting the teams to play for the win. This should mean that we get to witness a very exciting game of soccer.

The Portland Timbers are close to the top of the Western Conference but will need to continue winning if they wish to remain in this position. The Western Conference is filled with many top quality teams like LAFC, FC Dallas, Sporting Kansas City and LA Galaxy. To ensure that the Portland Timbers are in the fight for the top spots, they need to win their games, especially their home games. The Portland Timbers are unbeaten since April which means the team is in really good form. It will be important that the Portland Timbers can convert this form into wins.

On the other side of the field, the Philadelphia Union will know that they must play for the win or they will lose. The visitors are not the best defensive team so they must attack to try and score against the Portland Timbers. This will be a very hard game since the Union will be away from home and facing a top quality team. If the Union play to the best of their ability, they will compete.

All in all, I think that the Portland Timbers will win. They are the better side and playing at home. I don’t think this will be a big challenge for the Timbers and I expect a comfortable home win. As far as betting is concerned, we are getting a poor price to wager on the Timbers winning so I would avoid that bet. The best bet is the over 2.5 goals which should win since both teams love to score.
