One of the glamour fixtures of the Friday night Internationals will see Portugal host France in Lisboa in what should be an entertaining game between two very talented squads. An aging Portugal squad led by current Ballon Dor holder Cristiano Ronaldo will be looking to take a scalp against a France team that appears to be on its way back as one of the best in Europe. Portugal have lots of experience throughout the side with Pepe, Alves and Carvalhyo all in their 30's at the back and the experienced Nani, Quaresma and Mouthino in midfield and of course the brilliance of Ronaldo up front. Monaco youngster Bernard Silva will be keen to get his chance with the national team having only recently broken into the squad with this being only his third senior call up. Portugal have a good solid side coached by a solid manager in Fernando Santos and complimented by the brillance of Ronaldo, when he is at his best the Real Madrid forward is unplayable.
On the other side we have a France team that have been slowly re assembling their internation reputation after a couple of disasterous tournaments. With the exceptional Benzema, Pogba and Greizmann this is a side that can beat anyone on their day but they have also got strength in depth now with Manchester United pair Schneiderlein and Martial along with juventus wingback Evra and Arsenal striker Giroud. This is a squad full of players playing at the top level across all the top leagues in Europe and managed by a former world cup winner Didier Deschamps.
This is one of those friendlies that really attracts attention but as with most friendlies this one will be played at a pace below normal international games. I normally take the draw in this situation as both teams are well matched and I find it hard to split them at the moment. If anything there is a little more value in taking the home underdog given the prices but I do like the draw more. I think this will be an entertaining game and a chance to see some of the best players on the planet go head to head.
