Real Madrid is hosting Real Valladolid in round 2 of Spanish LaLiga.
Real Madrid was struggling throughout whole last season and during the preseason period this year but they have finally displayed some good soccer and what they are capable of in last weekends season opener. Real Madrid played against Celta Vigo last week and was a better team for most of the game, even after Luka Modric got sent off due to a red card. In that game, Real had 44% of ball possession, 11 shots on goal, and 84% of correct passes and was able to win with goals from Benzema, Kroos, and Vazquez. Real Madrid was pretty active on the market this summer and their biggest buy Eden Hazard missed the season opener due to a small injury but is expected to be in the starting lineup this weekend. Asensio, Mendy, and Rodrygo are all injured and will not be playing in this game. Zinedine Zidane is a great coach and is one of the most successful coaches and players in Real Madrid history who is a perfect fit for this team. Real Madrid has been behind Barcelona for years now in LaLiga and after last weekend it's the first time that after 818 days that they are ahead of Barcelona even if that is going to be for only a week.
Real Valladolid has barely escaped the relegation zone last season on 16th spot in the standings and was only 4 points ahead of Girona who was 18th. Valladolid had the perfect season opener away from home against Real Betis in a match where Valladolid had 53% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, only 1 corner kick and 86% of correct passes and was able to win 1-2 with goals from Plano and Guardiola. Luismi is only injured player in Valladolid's squad and will not be playing in this game so coach Sergio will have his strongest players at his disposal for a home opener this weekend. Valladolid is playing without pressure because the club's management is not expecting for the team to compete for one of the spots that lead to European competitions and their only job is to stay in LaLiga. There were 17 departures and 19 arrivals from and to Valladolid and for that reason it's going to take some time for players to get used to each other for team chemistry to develop. Valladolid has some solid players like Unal, Alcaraz, and Sandro Ramirez but that will not be enough for them to climb higher than 10th spot in the standings in my opinion.
Real Madrid and Valladolid have played 6 times since 2012., and Real Madrid has won 5 of those matches while 1 match ended in a 1-1 draw. Real Madrid has never lost at home against Valladolid and I don't see them being a threat in this game as well.
