We have some MLS action from Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday night as Real Salt Lake play host to FC Dallas.
Real Salt Lake come into this match looking to build some steam after snapping a three game winless drought with a 4-2 win over Sporting Kansas City in their last outing. RSL fell behind 1-0 in the 20th minute before rattling off three goals in 18 minutes before halftime. KC pulled one back but Salt Lake dodged a bullet with Albert Rusnak missing a penalty and eventually getting a 4th goal 10 minutes into second half stoppage time for the win. It was a chippy affair that saw a total of 10 cards between the two sides. Both teams split the possession 50/50, with RSL outshooting KC 18-8 and 7-3 in terms of shots on target. Corey Baird leads the team with 5 goals this season, while Rusnak and Damir Kreilach are tied for the team lead in assists with 3 apiece this season.
FC Dallas will be looking to build on back-to-back wins following a come from behind 3-2 win over Atlanta United in their last outing. Reto Ziegler gave the lead to FC Dallas in the 22nd minute, before Josef Martinez struck twice giving Atlanta the lead with less than 20 minutes remaining in the match. FC Dallas looked destined for defeat before Tesho Akindele scored twice in three minutes as a substitute in the 86th and 88th minutes respectively to give the Hoops all three points at the final whistle. Dallas were out possessed 56%-44% with each sides logging 15 shots with 6 on target. Roland Lamah leads Dallas with 7 goals this season while Mauro Diaz leads in assists with 5 helpers this season.
Head-to-head, FC Dallas have had the bulk of the success, winning six and drawing four of the last 12 matches between these two teams. The Hoops have also gone unbeaten in the last four meetings against Real Salt Lake.
Real Salt Lake burned me last time out and have been the strongest team in the conference at home this season. However, Dallas will be riding all sorts of momentum after stealing all three points from Atlanta, and the Hoops are the 2nd best team on the road in the West, claiming 13 of a possible 21 points away from home this season. Given the form and the head-to-head trends, I think we can capitalize on the value that we are getting with FC Dallas here.
