In the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League, AS Roma will host FC Porto for the first leg at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
AS Roma enter this match in decent form as the team won their previous game 3-0. It was a good performance by Roma as they controlled more than 50% of the possession while creating 15 shots. The goalkeeper was also exceptional for Roma as he made 5 saves to ensure a clean sheet for the team. AS Roma have had a rough season and are far below where they would have expected at the start of the campaign. That being said, Roma have not lost in Serie A in 2019 which shows an improvement in form for the team.
On the other side of the coin, FC Porto enter this match in a patch of rough form. Porto have only won 1 game in their last 4 outings which is a cause for concern as they have allowed Benfica to close the gap at the top of the table. In their last outing, Porto only managed a 1-1 draw Moreirense. It was a poor performance from Porto and they only managed a point thanks to an injury-time goal by Hector Herrera.
The last time FC Porto and AS Roma played each other was in the Champions League in 2016. On that occasion, FC Porto won 3-0 after Roma were reduced down to 9 men due to red cards.
Taking everything into consideration, I am going to pick AS Roma to win this match. Neither side has been playing well but Roma have a strong group of players who have managed to produce results in the recent weeks. Furthermore, AS Roma are playing at home which should give them enough of an advantage to secure victory from this fixture.
