Roma is hosting Sassuolo in round 3 of Italian Serie A.
Roma hasn't lost a game since April 3rd of this year, back in last season where they ended up 6th in the standings with 66 points. Roma has started this season with two draws against Genoa and Lazio. In their last game against Lazio, Roma wasn't playing good and had 50% of ball possession, only 3 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, and 82% of correct passes. Match ended up in a 1-1 draw and Roma's only goal came from a penalty kick bay Aleksandar Kolarov who scored 2 goals in first 2 games while Under and Dzeko added 1 goal each. Spinazzola, Perotti, and Zappacosta are all injured and will not be playing in this game. Close to the end of the last season, Roma hired Italian expert Claudio Ranieri to get them out of the slump which he did, but he decided not to stay and Roma find a new coach in Paulo Fonseca who only continued with good results. Roma brought a few good players and has managed to keep their best striker Edin Dzeko who was wanted by Inter and Juventus. Roma is one of the most iconic clubs in Italy where many great players started their professional careers. I think that Roma is stronger now that last season and is playing exciting and attacking soccer and for that reason, I believe they will be in the top 5 in Serie A this season.
Sassuolo is playing pretty good soccer in this early season and has scored 5 goals while conceding 3 goals. In their last game against Sampdoria, Sassuolo was fantastic with 70% of ball possession, 8 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, and high 89 % of correct passes and has won this match 4-1 at home. Berardi has scored 3 goals in first 2 games of the season while Traore and Caputo added 1 goal each. Rodrigo is the only injured player for Sassuolo. In the preseason Sassuolo was playing great soccer and hasn't lost a single game Thanks to coach De Zerbi who is doing an amazing job with this young team that he has at his disposal. Sassuolo likes to play fast soccer, mostly through their wings. On the other side of the field, Sassuolo is not doing too good because they lack experience and consistency on the defensive end. Sassuolo had the same problem last season where they ended up in 11th place in the standings thanks to their offense because their defense was not on the level expected in Serie A and conceded 60 goals. Sassuolo is a young team with a young coach who is doing an outstanding job but Sassuolo doesn't have the depth to compete for European competition. I don't think Sassuolo will end up any higher in the standings than last season because they lack consistency which they will gain when young players mature in another season or two.
Both Roma and Sassuolo are playing great soccer offensively and both teams have scored at least one goal and conceded at least one goal in both of the first two games of the season. Roma and Sassuolo have played 6 times in Rome, and in each of those games, both teams have scored at least one goal. I give a slight edge to Roma because they are a better team but I will pick something on goals instead.
