Sampdoria is hosting AC Milan in round 29 of Italian Serie A.
Sampdoria is playing some of their best soccer at the moment and are a dangerous team because they are only 3 points away from a spot that leads into Europa League next season. Fabio Quagliarella is Sampdoria’s best player and leading goal scorer of both Sampdoria and Serie A with 21 goals in 27 matches. Sampdoria have scored 49 goals so far and have conceded 38 goals and their shaky defense is the main reason why Sampdoria isn’t few places higher then 9th place in the standings. In their last game against Sassuolo, Sampdoria was better team with 57% ball possession, 10 shots on goal, 84% of correct passes and have won this game 3-5 only thanks to their offense because their defense was leaking from all sides. Sampdoria have score 10 goals in last 5 matches and coach Giampaolo is doing great job in using this offensive momentum. Caprari and Barreto are only 2 injured players and will not play in this game. Sampdoria are playing nice and fast soccer with lots of plays going through their wingers which allows them to create space and lots of chances against any team in Serie A.
Milan are playing in great form and are playing some of the best soccer in years and are holding 4th place in the standings with 51 points and are only 2 points behind their biggest rival Inter. In their last game against Inter, Milan was better team with 55% ball possession, 5 shots on goal and 89% of correct passes but weren’t able to keep the ball out of their net and have lost 2-3. Piatek is Milan’s top goal scorer with 6 goals in 8 matches since he was signed 2 months ago and is Milan’s best player alongside Suso who has 8 assists and Calhanoglu who has 6 assists. Bonnaventura is only injured player in Milan’s squad and coach Gatusso will have his best players at his disposal. Milan is playing in great form at the moment and if club’s management manages to keep their best players and sign few more good players to add some more quality to the team, Milan will compete for top spot with Juventus and Napoli next season.
Trends between these two teams are mixed but I’m giving the edge here to Milan because they are better team with better defense and haven’t lost any of their last 8 away games.
