The San Jose Earthquakes and New York Red Bulls meet Wednesday night at the Avaya Stadium.
The San Jose Earthquakes are off to a decent 2-2-1 start and are in the thick of the Western Conference. The Earthquakes have been consistent on the offensive end, scoring at least one goal in all five matches. The San Jose Earthquakes have four players with at least three shot attempts. Chris Wondolowski leads San Jose with four goals, Quincy Amarikwa has three assists and Tommy Thompson has four shots. Defensively, David Bingham has come away with 14 saves on 21 shots faced. The San Jose Earthquakes have earned points in eight straight regular season home games.
The New York Red Bulls could use a win in order to climb out of a brutal 1-4 start to the season. The Red Bulls have been shutout in their last two matches and have allowed 11 goals in five matches. The New York Red Bulls are a complete mess right now, as they can’t get anything going on either end of the field. Felipe leads New York with two goals, Sacha Kljestan has one assist and Bradley Wright-Phillips has 23 shots. Defensively, Luis Robles has come away with 15 saves on 26 shots faced. The New York Red Bulls have lost five of their last seven regular season road games.
The Red Bulls beat the Earthquakes in the last match last year, but three of the last five meetings between these two teams have resulted in a draw. Three of the last five meetings have also produced at least three goals.
While draws seem to be the common theme when these teams meet, there’s no value backing the Red Bulls with the way they’ve played this season. New York can’t get anything right, especially on the offensive side. I’ll take San Jose to get the victory at home.
