We have a battle between a pair of cellar dwellers in their respective conferences in MLS action on Saturday, as Seattle Sounders host DC United.
The Seattle Sounders will be out to snap a three game losing streak after being shut out for a 3rd straight game, losing to Real Salt Lake by a final score of 2-0 in their last outing. Seattle just couldn’t get anything going, being outshot by RSL 18-5, with Salt Lake notching 6 shots on target, something Seattle couldn’t do once in the loss. Will Bruin leads the Sounders with 3 goals and 2 assists this season, with a team-high 23 shots, including 9 shots on target this season.
DC United will look to build off a pair of positive results, following a 3-1 win over San Jose with a 1-1 draw against LAFC in their last outing. LAFC took the lead in the 39th minute, but had to play the 2nd half with 10 men after Dejan Jakovic was sent off. DC United were almost unable to take advantage before Darren Mattocks finally made LA pay with an equalizer in the 84th minute. DC dominated the possession battle, owning 58% possession, but that didn’t translate offensively, as LAFC outshot DC 17-13, with 6 shots on target to DC’s 2. Mattocks leads DC with 5 goals and 24 shots this season with 9 attempts on target, while Luciano Acosta is DC United’s assist leader with 4 helpers this season.
Head-to-Head, Seattle has owned this matchup, winning each of the last four meetings between the two sides, including a 4-3 thriller in July last season. As a matter of fact, DC united have not beaten Seattle since 2011, and also worth noting, six of the last eight meetings have seen one team held off of the scoreboard.
There’s no denying that both teams are struggling right now, and that Seattle have owned this matchup so what better place to turn things around then right here. However, I’m not the type of guy to lay and sort of juice or low line with a team that hasn’t scored in their last 3 games and in five of their last six games overall. I mean two goals in six games makes you wonder how this team has hung around in games at all this season. Anyways, DC have shown they’re able to hang and get positive results on the road, so I’ll take a shot with DC to get the road win here.
