Shakhtar Donetsk vs Roma 21 February 2018: Champions League Preview and Predictions

Shakhtar Donetsk takes on Roma in the first leg of their tie for a spot in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League. Shakhtar will at home meaning that Roma will need to make the trip to Ukraine and play in the cold weather.

Shakhtar is a side that would have been very pleased that they made it to the round of 16 of this competition. The players and the team will know that if they want to make it to the next round of the competition they are going to need to perform well in their home leg. The home game is a huge advantage for Shakhtar since the Roma players will not be very comfortable playing in Ukrainian conditions. In addition to that, the home fans are very intimidating and that is a big boost for the team.

Roma will go into this game hoping for a draw at the very least. The Italian side will know that if they don’t lose this game, they should be alright to make it through to the next round of the competition. Roma is the much better side and they will look to use that added talent advantage to get a win in this game. That being said, it is hard to get a win in these kinds of games so I am going to predict that this game ends in a draw.

As far as betting is concerned, we are getting a good price on the draw. Both sides will be happy with this result and it seems like a very likely outcome. In addition to this, I am also a fan of the under 2.5 goals. Neither side will play overly aggressively meaning we should get a low scoring game.
