Nigeria will play against South Africa in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
South Africa eliminated the host nation, Egypt, in the previous round. It was a determined effort by South Africa as the team only had 37% of the possession but defended well to keep a clean sheet. The only goal of the game was scored in the 85th minute by Orlando Pirates striker, Thembinkosi Lorch.
South Africa were fortunate to qualify for the second round after finishing third in the group. South Africa only won 1 match in the group stages but the team has shown great defensive ability as they have only conceded 2 goals in the entire tournament.
On the other side of the coin, Nigeria were very impressive in their previous match as they defeated Cameroon 3-2. Nigeria were trailing 2-1 at half-time but the team showed great skill to score 2 second-half goals. Odion Ighalo was the star performer for Nigeria as the striker scored 2 goals. Alex Iwobi scored the winning goal for Nigeria. Nigeria only had 38% of the ball but the team showed great purpose during the match as they created more shooting chances than their opposition.
Nigeria finished second in their group behind Madagascar. During the group stage, Nigeria won 2 games. Nigeria are a very talented side as they have players such as Alex Iwobi, Ahmed Musa and Wilfred Ndidi who play for some of the biggest clubs in the Premier League.
This match between South Africa and Nigeria is set to be played at the Cairo International Stadium.
South Africa have done well to make it into the quarterfinals but I see the team losing this match. South Africa lack the attacking ability to compete as the team has only scored 2 goals in the entire tournament. Nigeria have a better group of players and they have a better balance in the team. Nigeria were impressive during the win against Cameroon and I see them being good enough to defeat South Africa in this match.
