Southampton vs Newcastle 9 April 2016: EPL Preview and Predictions

Southampton will take on Newcastle United this weekend in a game at St Mary’s stadium which will have huge implications on the Magpies chances on staying up. A win for Newcastle will give their campaign life while a loss will make them feel like the dream is almost over. Southampton on the hand have been playing pretty well lately and will want to continue their good work and get a win in front of their home fans although there is not much for them to play for at this stage of the season.

Newcastle currently sit in the drop zone and although it is not going to be easy for them to get out alive, things like it have happened before and they will take inspiration for Leicester City of last season. This game is going to be tough since the Magpies rely a lot on their home crowd and away from home is going to very tough. Nevertheless, they will have to try but I think it might just be a little too much for them since Southampton are a pretty good side.

The Saints on the other hand are coming off a loss against the Foxes but they will feel like this is the best chance for them to get back on the winning boat. This team is well balanced in my opinion and although they have conceded a lot of goals lately, I think they should have enough to outscore a very vulnerable Newcastle United defense. I think anything but a win for the Saints here will be a surprise so I am going for that prediction.

As far as betting is concerned, betting on Southampton to win outright is getting a way too short of a price so I think that is not a profitable play. I think our best bet is to go on the over 2.5 goals since this Newcastle defense could easily concede 3 or more here. That being said, I am not liking the price for this either so perhaps looking elsewhere is a better option.

Over 2.5 Goals
