We have some Group B World Cup soccer action on Wednesday as Iran takes on Spain from the Kazan Arena.

Iran comes into this match as the surprising leader atop group B following their 1-0 win over Morocco in their last outing. The match with the Moroccans looked like it was going to be a scoreless draw before Moroccan forward Aziz Bouhaddouz headed the ball into his own goal deep into 2nd half injury time. Iran was heavily out possessed by Morocco, 63%-37%, also being outshot 13-8 including 3 shots on target to the Iranian 2.

Spain on the other hand were involved in what could be match of the tournament after a thrilling 3-3 draw with Portugal to open their 2018 World Cup. Spain fell behind early thanks to a penalty kick before Diego Costa equalized in the 24th minute. Cristiano Ronaldo notched his 2nd goal on a howler from Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea before Costa notched his 2nd goal to level the match again. Just 3 minutes later, Nacho scored an absolute screamer for his first international goal for Spain, but the Spaniards couldn’t hold onto the lead as Ronaldo drilled home a free kick to complete the hat trick and finish off the draw. Spain out possessed Portugal 62%-38%, with 12 shots on goal to Portugal’s 8, and 5 shots on target to Portugal’s 3.

These two sides have never met on the national stage.

Iran’s win over Morocco was a nice moment for the team, but if it wasn’t for a Moroccan miscue, Iran would only have one point and be on level terms with Spain coming into this one. Spain is one of the best in the world and went toe-to-toe with Portugal and would also be at three points if it wasn’t for a magical performance from Cristiano Ronaldo. All in all, I think this is the game where Iran comes crashing back down to earth, and in a big way as Spain rolls.

Spain -1.5
