We have some World Cup action out of Group B on Monday as Spain takes on Morocco from the Kaliningrad Stadium.

Spain will be looking to officially punch their ticket to the round of 16, currently sitting atop group B tied with Portugal on 4 points after a 1-0 victory over Iran in their last outing. The match looked destined to end in a scoreless draw at the half, but Diego Costa ensured that wouldn’t happen when he gave the Spaniards the lead in the 54th minute and that was all Spain would need for the victory. Spain took advantage of Iran’s laid-back approach, owning 68% possession to Iran’s 32%, outshooting Iran 17-5 with 3 shots on goal while holding Iran off of the mark.

Morocco on the other hand will simply be playing for pride after being mathematically eliminated from the group following a second consecutive 1-0 defeat against Portugal in their last outing to sit in the group B basement. Cristiano Ronaldo put Morocco behind the 8 ball just 4 minutes into the match, and the Moroccans never recovered, despite out possessing Portugal 53%-47%, outshooting them 16-10 and 4-2 in regards to shots on target.

These two sides have not met in international competition since 1961 so there aren’t any trends to go off of for head-to-head purposes.

I’d like to see Morocco show some pride here and at least get a win for their home faithful and for the fans that made the trek to Russia. However, Spain still hasn’t locked up a spot yet, and while it’s likely to happen, nothing can be guaranteed at this point. All in all, I see Spain putting their foot on the gas to get an opening goal and then sitting back and sitting on that for the remainder of the match. However we aren’t getting a very good price for an outright Spanish victory here, so I’ll side with the under as I don’t see a high-scoring affair happening here. Something braver punters might want to take a look at is the Spain win to nil option.
