Spanish Copa del Rey Round of 16: Best Bets – Odds, Predictions, and Picks
Sunday, January 26, 2020 at 12:19 PM (Spain)
The Copa del Rey dishes up lots of interesting matchups for the Round of 16 games this week. I’ve chosen to feature three games which all see second-tier sides take on La Liga opponents.
Here are the best bets for this week’s Spanish cup fixtures.
Tenerife vs. Athletic Bilbao – 1/28/20
Segunda Division side Tenerife have done well to reach the last 16, beating La Liga outfit Valladolid in the previous round. However, Tenerife’s league form has been poor this season. The club find themselves a couple of points above the relegation zone after winning just six of their 25 second-tier games in 2019/20. On the other hand, Bilbao are sitting just outside the top-flight European places and boast one of the best defensive records in the division. Bilbao are the favorites here at 1.53, and rightfully so. But considering they rarely concede, I suggest adding the under 3.5 goals market into the mix to enhance your odds.
Pick: Athletic Bilbao to Win and Under 3.5 Goals – 2.11
Rayo Vallecano vs. Villarreal – 1/29/20
Vallecano also beat top-flight opposition in the Round of 32 as they overcame Real Betis on penalties following a 2-2 draw. But much like Tenerife, Vallecano have been struggling in Segunda Division and are currently languishing in mid-table. By contrast, Villarreal have won seven of their previous eight games in all competitions and come into this matchup on the back of a 2-1 La Liga victory over Alaves. An impressive run of results has seen Villarreal climb up the table, so I think they’ll be full of confidence. 1.80 are great odds for a top-flight victory over lower-league opponents.
Pick: Villarreal to Win – 1.80
Mirandes vs. Sevilla – 1/30/20
This is another matchup that sees a Segunda Division side host a top-flight team. Mirandes got the better of Celta Vigo in the previous round, but I think they will struggle against a much stronger Sevilla outfit. Sevilla’s comfortable 2-0 victory over Granada last time out means Julen Lopetegui’s side have won 11 of their 21 league games this season. Sevilla are not a high-scoring team, but they also don’t concede many goals. For that reason, I think adding the under 3.5 goals market onto the away win is a great option again here. A Sevilla win is at 1.44, but you can get odds of 1.96 by selecting the double.
Pick: Sevilla to Win and Under 3.5 Goals – 1.96
