Werder is welcoming Borussia Dortmund in round 32 of German Bundesliga.
After being undefeated for 13 games, Werder has lost 3 games in a row and are now on the 9th place in the standings with 46 points, 4 points away from Europa League qualifications. Werder is a solid team with some great young players like Eggestein and Sargent and they have shown us that they are capable of beating anyone in this league. In their last game against Fortuna, Werder was a better team with 55% of ball possession, 9 shots on goal, 9 corner kicks and 87% of correct passes but wasn’t able to keep the ball out of their net and have lost 4-1. Max Kruse leads Werder with 11 goals and 9 assists and will be in the lineup for this game as well. Moisander is the only player who will miss this game because of the suspension. Werder is solid on the offensive end of the field and has scored 53 goals in 31 games, but their biggest problem is defense where Werder struggled for most of the season and has conceded 46 goals. Florian Kohfeldt is Werder’s head coach since November of 2017., and club’s management feels that he is the right man for this job and will stay on the bench for next season as well.
Borussia Dortmund has been playing really well for most of the season, but like any other team, they had some black holes when it matters the most. In their last game against Schalke who is one of the worst team in Bundesliga this season, Borussia was absolutely terrible on both ends of the field. Borussia had 69% of ball possession, 91% of correct passes but only 2 shots on goal and 2 red cards, and has lost this game 2-4 in front of their fans. Alcacer is Borussia’s top goal scorer with 17 goals while Sancho has 14 assists. Hakimi is injured while Wolf and Reus are suspended due to a red card. Borussia is second in the standings with 69 points, just 2 points behind Bayern who has an easier job in this round of Bundesliga, so coach Favre will need to motivate and get his players ready because if they lose, the race for Bundesliga title is over. Borussia is playing some of the best and really attractive soccer in Europe and is filled with some young talented players like Sancho, Pulisic, Weigl, and Akanji who are wanted by every major soccer club in Europe and Borussia’s fans are standing with their team in good and bad and are probably the best fans in Europe.
Trends are mixed here and 10 of last 11 games have gone over 2.5 goals and both teams scoring at least 1 goal. This is a game with a lot at stake and both teams could use a win but Borussia needs a win more and I see them taking points here.
