The first game of 2014 see's Manchester City travel to Swansea to take on the Swans. Swansea have been in a really poor run of form and havent won in six games. Michael Laudraup's team has had some struggles of late mostly down to significant injuries. Michu, Vorm and Dyer will all miss the New Years game with Manchester City due to ankle injuries and a knee injury respectively. But Swansea have gotten Wilfred Bony back and have been really solid at home in the Premier League only losing to Arsenal , Manchester United and Everton respectively. Tomorrow will be an interesting game for Swansea, we will see if they can truly play with the big boys.
On the other side of the form table are Manchester City who have won six straight , City have had their struggles away from losing four games already and to mostly inferior opposition. Manuel Pelligrini has put a stop to the losses and City have really dug deep and are on a terrific run of form recently winning eleven of their last twelve in all competitions. There are some injury concerns in Manchester City though as well with Sergio Aguero out with a hamstring, Joveitic and Micah Richards are also out and David Silva is suspended. While City are missing those players they do have ridiculuous strengh in depth with Ya Ya Toure, Negredo, Navas, Dzeko all filling in the gaps missing.
I feel like alot of these New Years games are trap games for the bigger sides and maybe none as big as this one. Swansea while in a run of bad form and missing their goalkeeper and star striker have proven themselves to be a tough match for most sides at home. They have only lost one game badly and that was on the opening day to a clinical Manchester United. I think City may just struggle here to score, they struggled last weekend when they barely got past Crystal Palace and they also struggled in the game before that against Liverpool. I'm going to take Swansea +1 on the handicap at 5/4, I think the Swans will get something from the first game of 2014 and I wouldnt be surprised if it was all three points.
