With Swansea and Sunderland battling relegation the meeting of both teams at the Liberty Stadium on Wednesday is a game of huge significance in the relegation battle. Swansea sit a point above the relegation zone with Sunderland just four points behind them, this game is a must win for Swansea though being at home. Swansea have been much better since the sacking of Gary Monk, two draws and a win sandwiched between loses at Manchester City and Manchester United have seen Swansea stay out of the relegation zone but not by much. The Swans simply must win these home games especially against their fellow relegation strugglers. With Gomis, Ayew, Montero in a front three and Sigurddson, Shelvey and Cork in behind there is enough attacking talent here to see Swansea win these games, the team were excellent at times agaisnt Manchester United but poor defending in the last couple of minutes seen them lose a game they could have gotten something from. At the weekend though Swansea played and lost to League two's oxford in a game they were outplayed. Alan Curtis definitely rested some starters though and Swansea's focus is on staying in the Premier League not an FA Cup run, I think this was the right decision for the club, as long as they get three points here.
WIth Sunderland losing to Arsenal at the weekend Sam Allardyce's side can focus fully on their relegation battle. Sunderland are a team that's hard to rate, sometimes their defence is quality and for long periods at the weekend they frustrated Arsenal but then they gave up two simple goals in the space of ten minutes and we can see why they are in relegation trouble. O'Shea, Coates and Cattermole will need to step up and lead the way for Sunderland while Defoe and Fletcher are key men up front. If Sunderland are to avoid relegation they are going to have to win their home games and pick up points agaisnt their fellow strugglers like Swansea. A win here for Sunderland would be massive as it would leave them just one point behind Swansea.
Really tough game to handicap here. I think both teams have proven tough to break down in recent weeks and the unders looks a solid play. I also like the look of the draw at half time though. Five of Swansea's ten home games have been level at half time so getting evens on it looks a good play to me and given the better odds I think its the smart play here.
