Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur meet Saturday in the soccer International Champions Cup at the Rose Bowl.
Barcelona hasn’t played a match in a couple of months, so this club should be eager to knockoff any rust with the La Liga season rapidly approaching. Barcelona has lost just one of its last nine matches overall and has scored at least once in all nine of those matches. Obviously a stacked roster capable of winning anything you put in front of them, Barcelona isn’t like other teams in this event that have many recent matches under their belt and the lack of playing time could impact the results. Barcelona also isn’t going to be putting out its best squad for this match and is probably still doing backflips over the addition of Malcom. It should be fun to see how Barcelona handles these matches and if the young players bring that competitive spirit we’re used to seeing when the matches matter.
Tottenham Hotspur is coming off a 4-1 beatdown over AS Roma, a match they won as decent sized plus money. Fernando Llorente and Lucas Moura each found the back of the net twice for the Spurs, and the club got five total shots on goal in the victory. Preseason or not, it was a really solid showing for Tottenham Hotspur, and this club has now produced a combined 10 goals in its last three matches. The Lilywhites have also now won four straight matches when finding the back of the net at least once. Tottenham has to really like where its at right now and a win here over one of the best teams in the world would only add to that confidence. The Spurs are certainly a team to keep an eye on as we get ready for the Premier League to take place.
There’s no previous matches between these two sides.
The lack of recent matches and the fact Barcelona is probably more focused on the upcoming Spain Super Cup Final more than anything makes Tottenham an interesting option. Betting the side that actually wants to win during the preseason usually is going to make you a lot of money. Motivation may be lacking for Barcelona in this match if we’re being honest.
Either way, I’m going to side with the over in this match. Both of these clubs can light it up offensively and Tottenham is in a good offensive groove at the moment. Expect some fireworks and give me the over.
