In the English Premier League, Tottenham are set to host Southampton at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Tottenham have been very poor recently and that was well demonstrated midweek as they were eliminated from the Football League Cup by Colchester. In their last Premier League match, Tottenham were beaten 2-1 away from home by Leicester City. It was a poor defensive effort by Tottenham as they allowed the Foxes to have 7 shots on target. Harry Kane scored Tottenham’s only goal. Tottenham have only won 2 games this season and are currently 7th on the ladder behind teams like Bournemouth and West Ham. Considering the size of the club, Tottenham must improve their results soon.
On the other side of the field, Southampton were also beaten in their previous Premier League outing as they lost 3-1 at home to Bournemouth. Considering the rivalry between the Saints and the Cherries, the loss would have hurt Southampton fans and they will be desperate to bounce back quickly. During the loss to Bournemouth, Southampton controlled 65% of the possession and had 25 shots but failed to convert their chances into goals. The Saints were hit by counter-attacks on 3 occasions with all resulting in goals for Bournemouth. Traveling to Tottenham is always a tough task but considering the recent troubles the Spurs have had, Southampton will be optimistic.
Tottenham and Southampton last played each other in March. The match was played at St Mary’s Stadium with Southampton shocking Tottenham with a 2-1 win.
Looking at all the information, I am going to predict Tottenham and Southampton to end this match all square. The Saints have managed to get results against the likes of Manchester United which shows their ability to fight hard. Furthermore, Southampton seem to always produce their best football against Tottenham as they have a strong head-to-head record in recent years. Tottenham have looked poor recently and I don’t see them having enough to win this match.
