Hoffenheim is welcoming Bayer Leverkusen in round 27 of German Bundesliga.
Hoffenheim is playing in good form at the moment and have lost only 1 game out of last 8 games. Hoffenheim had a few players being called to play for their national teams during last weeks international break, most important one being Andrej Kramaric who is Hoffenheim’s top goal scorers with 13 goals. Hoffenheim is playing really good offensive soccer with lots of short passes and plays through the middle and because of that there is a to big of a gap between offense and defense which allows their opponents to attack through fast counter attacks. So far into season, Hoffenheim have scored 50 goals and conceded 38 goals in 26 games which makes them one of the worst teams on the defensive end in Bundesliga. In their last game against Stuttgart, Hoffenheim was much better team despite playing away with 61% ball possession, 8 shots on goal, 9 corner kicks and 82% of correct passes but were able to score only 1 goal and game ended in 1-1 draw. Hoffenheim in holding 9th place in the standings and are huge 9 points away from 4th place which leads to Champions League next season and coach Nagelsmann has his work cut out for him to get his team more focused on the defense. Geiger and Rupp are injured and will not be playing but rest of the team is healthy and ready to continue the chase for that 4th place.
Bayer Leverkusen is a team with biggest potential in Bundesliga filled with young superstars like Havertz, Bailey, Retsos, Jedvaj and Tah who were all playing for their national teams. In their last game against Werder, Bayer lost 1-3 at home despite being far better team with 70% ball possession, 10 corner kicks, 87% of correct passes but only 2 shots on goal. Kevin Volland is Bayer’s top goal scorer with 11 goals while Havertz added 10 goals and Brandt added 10 assists. Bayer Leverkusen has same problem as Hoffenheim on the defensive end and have conceded 40 goals in 26 matches but coach Bosz is doing great job in working with young players and Bayer is improving on the defensive end with every passing game. Bayer’s home record thus far is 7 wins, 1 draw and 5 losses and Bayer are holding 6th place in the standings with only 5 points behind Champions League spot. Pohjanpalo is only injured player in Bayer Leverkusen team but we are yet to see in what kind of form will players that were playing for their national teams return to Leverkusen. Bayer is playing similar soccer to Hoffenheim but faster and they might not be better this season, but if Bayer’s management manages to keep their most important players Bayer will compete for one of the top 3 spots in Bundesliga next season.
This is the match between two teams with great offense but shaky defense which were unable to keep the ball out of their nets for most of the games so far. I expect great, interesting and exciting game with lots of chances on both sides.
