Udinese is entering the new season by hosting Milan in round 1 of Italian Serie A.
Udinese had a solid last season where they ended up on 12th place in the standings with 43 points, 39 scored goals and 53 conceded goals. For the most of the last season, Udinese was in the relegation zone, then in March of this year, the fired their head coach and signed Croatian coach Igor Tudor. Since his arrival, Udinese has won 6 games, lost 3 while 3 ended up in a draw and Udinese climbed the standings and stayed in Serie A. Udinese has a young team with a lot of potential and their best player is Rodrigo De Paul who scored 9 goals and had 8 assists last season. In the preseason period, Udinese didn't do well and has lost 3 of their 4 games. Few new players in Udinese's squad will certainly improve this team both on the defensive and offensive end. Sebastien De Maio is only injured player in Udinese's squad and will not be available to coach Tudor for this match. Udinese is solid in the attacking end, but inconsistent on the defensive end which is something coach Tudor as a former defender will know how to fix. I don't expect from Udinese to climb the standings a lot or to qualify for Europa League but they will certainly keep their Serie A status.
Milan was in the spot that leads to Champions League and as the season was coming to the end, Milan started to slip up and fell to 5th place, just 1 point behind Inter and Atalanta. This season, Milan has made a lot of changes and it finally feels like they could compete with Juventus and Napoli. Milan started by signing a new head coach, Marco Giampaolo who did a solid job at Sampdoria and likes balanced soccer style that could be good for this Milan team. After signing the head coach, Milan signed new general manager, Zvonimir Boban who is Milan's legend from the 90' and early 00'. Bennacer, Duarte, Leao, Krunic, and Hernandez are just the first signings and there are few more rumored transfers that just a signature away. Led by one of the best goalkeepers in the world, Gianluigi Donnarumma, one of the best Italian defenders Alessio Romagnoli, and Suso, Piatek, and Calhanoglu in the offensive zone, Milan's future looks bright and shiny. Preseason for Milan was bad and the players still need some time to get used to each other and to the new coach which will most certainly happen sooner rather than later. Caldara and Hernandez are both injured and will not be playing in this first game of the new season. Milan has been behind Juventus, Inter, and Napoli for years now, but with rumors that Juventus is focusing mostly on Champions League, Milan is getting the rare opportunity to compete for Serie A title.
Udinese hasn't lost any of their last 9 home matches, while Milan hasn't lost any of their lost 4 away games. The quality and experience are on Milan's side, but the form is on Udinese's side and because Milan is playing away I decided not to take Milan here until I see how are they playing. I will take a stab at a draw for a reasonable price.
