São Lourenço da Mata, Brazil
Uruguay -164 / Peru +500 / Draw +260
Peru and Uruguay have made it into the quarterfinals of the 2019 Copa America. These two teams will play at the Arena Pernambuco in São Lourenço da Mata.
Uruguay have been very impressive throughout this tournament as they finished top of their group with 7 points. In their previous match, Uruguay defeated Chile 1-0.
It was an impressive display by Uruguay as the win was against the reigning champions. During the win, Uruguay only had 42% of the ball but they used the possession effectively as they managed the same number of shots on target as Chile. Edinson Cavani was the star performer for Uruguay as the PSG striker scored in the 82nd minute to hand Uruguay the 3 points. Uruguay had a slight glitch against Japan but outside of that draw, the team has been dominant as they have scored 7 times in the 2019 Copa America. Uruguay have also kept 2 clean sheets which shows the quality of the defense.
Looking at their opponents, Peru finished third in their group but had enough points to qualify into the quarterfinals. In their 3 games, Peru managed 4 points.
Peru’s latest game was against Brazil. It was a disappointing performance by Peru as they lost 5-0. Peru only had 31% of the ball and completed less than 300 passes. Peru were never expected to defeat Brazil but the manner of defeat will be a matter of concern. Peru have only scored 3 goals in this tournament and it seems like the forwards are lacking the ability to compete. With an opponent in Uruguay that contains the likes of Godin and Gimenez, Peru are likely to struggle to score in this match.
Peru have lacked quality in this tournament and they are fortunate to qualify to the quarterfinals. Uruguay, on the other hand, have been outstanding and finished top of their group. With all that in mind, I see Uruguay winning this game. Uruguay are filled with quality players and I see their strong defense shutting out Peru. Uruguay have enough attacking quality to score against Peru and that should be enough to see them secure a spot in the semifinals.
