Guyana vs. USA

Saint Paul, Minnesota
USA -5000 / Draw +1400 / Guyana +5000
The United States men’s national team will begin their 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign against Guyana at the Allianz Field in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
It has been a very poor build-up to this tournament of the USMNT as they lost to both Jamaica and Venezuela in their warm-up matches. The loss to Venezuela was particularly concerning as the lost 3-0 and were outplayed for most of the contest. This team is lacking in attack as they are missing a proper striker. Jozy Altidore is the only number 9 in the USMNT squad but the Toronto FC striker has not been at his peak this season in the MLS. Altidore has struggled with injury and has only played 9 MLS games in 2019. This means that the USMNT are lacking an inform striker which has been evident as the team did not score a single goal in the 2 games they played. This team will be heavily reliant on Christian Pulisic who has established himself as a top player in the Bundesliga. Pulisic will add creativity and he will be responsible for creating scoring chances for the strikers. While the USA have not been playing well in recent weeks, this is a relatively easy group and they will hope that they have enough quality to ease into the next round, especially since they are playing at home.
On the other side of the pitch, Guyana are looking like a very weak outfit. Guyana lost to both Haiti and Bermuda in recent weeks and this team looks like they will suffer some big defeats in this tournament. Haiti and Bermuda are both ranked outside the top 100 nations and losing to both these teams show that Guyana are not in a good position as they enter this match. Guyana are currently ranked 166th in the world.
The USMNT have not been playing well and there is great concern regarding this team. That being said, I see the USA easily winning this match. Guyana are not going to go far in this tournament and their squad is not in the same level as that of the USMNT. Regardless of form, the USA are significantly superior and I see them starting the CONCACAF Gold Cup with a big win.
