The Vancouver Whitecaps and Real Salt Lake meet Friday in MLS soccer action at BC Place.
The Vancouver Whitecaps are in need of a bounce back performance after losing their last three matches, including a 6-0 loss to Kansas City last week. The Vancouver Whitecaps have been outscored 10-1 during this three-match losing streak and the 17 goals allowed are easily the most given up for a team in the top half of the Western Conference. The Vancouver Whitecaps have allowed two or more goals in four of their last six matches and Stefan Marinovic has just one shutout so far this season. The Vancouver Whitecaps got off to such a strong start, but things are looking awfully shaky at the moment and points are needed big time in this match to right the ship. Kei Kamara leads the Whitecaps with three goals, Alphonso Davies has two assists and Cristian Techera has nine shots.
Real Salt Lake are in pretty good form with wins in three of their last five matches and are fresh off a 3-0 win over the Colorado Rapids. Real Salt Lake has had issues on the offensive end so far this season, but was able to find consistent success in its most recent match and they hope that carries over considering this club has four players with double-digit shot attempts. Real Salt Lake is allowing an average of two goals per game, but Nick Rimando has come away with two shutouts and and majority of those goals allowed came in three blowout losses. When the defense shows up, Real Salt Lake has proven to be a tough out and a team that can claw away points. Joao Plata leads Real Salt Lake with three goals, Albert Rusnak has two assists and Jefferson Savarino has 19 shots.
Real Salt Lake has won three of the last five meetings against the Whitecaps, including the most recent match a couple weeks ago. However, Vancouver has won two of the last four meetings. Each of the last four meetings between these two clubs have produced at least two goals.
There’s a lot of goals scored when these teams usually meet and there hasn’t been a single draw in the last five matches. Real Salt Lake is in better form, but the Vancouver Whitecaps are due for a breakthrough performance and have played their most consistent soccer this season at home. Real Salt Lake has also had trouble on the road where its just 0-2-1 this season.
Give me the Whitecaps for even money.
