Venezuela and Argentina meet Saturday night in the 2016 Copa America quarterfinals at Gillette Stadium.

Venezuela finished second in group C with victories over Jamaica and Uruguay, & a draw against Mexico. Venezuela has relied on its defense this tournament as it’s allowed one goal in three matches and 12 total shots on target. Venezuela has now allowed one or less goals in four straight matches and six of its last seven matches overall. Offensively, Venezuela has been led by Josef Martinez who has one goal and five shot attempts. Venezuela has 15 shots on target, so it's likely only a matter of time before the goals start to pile up. Venezuela has made the quarterfinals of the Copa America for the third time in four appearances after once being the laughing stock of the tournament.

Argentina swept group D by picking up victories over Chile, Panama and Bolivia. Argentina has been balanced throughout the tournament but has been led by an offense that’s produced 10 goals and 19 shots on target. Lionel Messi has racked up three goals and five shots while Gonzalo Higuain has one assist and eight shots. Argentina has now scored two or more goals in five of its last six matches and is the most dangerous team in the tournament when on the attack. Defensively, Argentina has pitched two straight shutouts and has allowed 10 shots on target in three matches. Argentina has reached the quarterfinals of Copa America for the second time in three appearances.

Venezuela has been able to get by defensively but hasn’t been able to find the back of the net with any consistency, as it’s averaging just one goal per match. That’s not good enough to beat an Argentina club that’s going to keep on the pressure and eventually force a team to play from behind.

Argentina should win this match and advance to the semifinals.
