Villareal is hosting Real Madrid in round 3 of Spanish LaLiga.
Villareal had bad last season where they ended up in 14th place with 44 points, 49 scored goals and 52 conceded goals. Last season, Villareal was struggling on the defensive end where they lacked focus and consistency. During preseason period this summer, Villareal was playing great but then the season started and the same problem appears. In their last game against Levante, Villareal the better team with 52% of ball possession, 6 shots on goal and 81% of correct passes and after the early lead of 0-1, Villareal's defense showed same problems as last season and Levante managed to turn the game around and win 2-1. Villareal's best players in the first two games were clubs legend Santi Cazorla who is one of the best midfielders in LaLiga. Bruno Soriano is only injured player in Villareal and will not be in the lineup for this game. Villareal has a solid team led by Chukwueze, Cazorla, and Anguissa and is playing fantastic and fun soccer in the attacking zone, but if coach Calleja doesn't make some changes on the defensive end, it will be another disappointing season for Villareal.
Real Madrid has started the season with a win against Celta Vigo away from home, but in their last weeks game against Valladolid, Real was disappointing. In that game, Real had 66% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks and high 91% of correct passes but was able to score only 1 goal and the game ended up in a 1-1 draw. Real has a lot of problems with injuries at the start of this season. Asensio, Rodrygo, Diaz, Isco, and Rodriguez are all injured while Hazard should finally have his debut in LaLiga because his recovery is going well. Real Madrid has the potential to win LaLiga and is one of the three main favorites to win the title, but the players are still getting used to each other and because of all the injuries, it will take a few more games for Real Madrid to get into a good form and get more consistency. Karim Benzema was Real's best player in the first two games with 2 goals and 1 assist. Last season was a total disappointment for Real Madrid because they ended up third in LaLiga with only 68 points and 12 losses, and in Champions League, Real was knocked out by Ajax. Real Madrid was one of the most active teams on the market and clubs management spared no expanse and signed some great players like Hazard, Jovic, and Rodrygo who will all be a great addition to this team in the long run. Real Madrid's goal for each season is to win both LaLiga and Champions League which they certainly are capable of doing but in my opinion, they are behind both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona in LaLiga and are not even in top 5 teams favorites to win Champions League.
Matches between Villareal and Real Madrid are always exciting and full of goal, especially games played in Villareal. Both teams are solid offensively and still a bit shaky on the defensive end, especially Villareal and because of that, I expect goals here of both sides.
